Parental Responsibility Evaluator &

Child and Family Investigator

Children are often caught in the middle of divorce disputes. Yet their needs and desires are too often lost in the wake of each parent's belief that he or she is fighting for what is in their children's best interest.

Colorado has several options to specifically address the needs of families involved in a divorce. One of the best options for protecting the interests of a child is having the court appoint a Parental Responsibility Evaluator or a Child and Family Investigator (PRE & CFI), formerly called a Special Advocate.

A Parental Responsibility Evaluator & Child and Family Investigator is appointed for the child by the court and reports directly to the court on the child's best interests.

On July 1, 2005, the Colorado General Assembly changed the title from Special Advocate to Child and Family Investigator.

Dr. Turner has special training in child development and mental health, and can be appointed either by agreement of the parties or court Order as soon as it becomes evident that parents cannot agree on parenting issues. In the role of Parental Responsibility Evaluator & Child and Family Investigator,  she will write a report to the court and can also be called as a witness at a hearing.

Dr. Turner can also act as the mental health role in collaborative divorce situations if needed.

Dr. Turner will also appear as an expert witness in court in order to help your family determine the best parenting plan for your children.
